Job Description: High School Athletic Trainer
Position Overview:
The High School Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive sports medicine and athletic training services to high school student-athletes. This role focuses on injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries. The Athletic Trainer will work closely with coaches, athletes, parents, and healthcare professionals to ensure the overall well-being and safety of student-athletes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement injury prevention programs, including warm-up exercises, stretching routines, and conditioning drills.
2. Conduct pre-participation physical examinations to assess athletes' medical history and physical capabilities.
3. Provide immediate on-field emergency care, injury assessment, and appropriate medical referrals.
4. Administer first aid, evaluate and treat athletic injuries, and determine the need for further medical attention.
5. Develop customized rehabilitation programs for injured athletes, including therapeutic exercises, modalities, and progressive return-to-play protocols.
6. Collaborate with coaches, parents, and healthcare providers to ensure proper management and communication of athlete injury status and progress.
7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress for each athlete.
8. Educate coaches, athletes, and parents on injury prevention techniques, proper nutrition, hydration, and sports safety protocols.
9. Assist in the maintenance and inventory management of athletic training supplies, equipment, and facilities.
10. Stay current with advancements in sports medicine by attending professional development activities and maintaining appropriate certifications.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or a related field.
2. Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers.
3. State licensure or eligibility for licensure as an Athletic Trainer.
4. Proven experience in providing comprehensive athletic training services, preferably in a high school or collegiate setting.
5. In-depth knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and common sports-related injuries.
6. Proficient in injury evaluation and treatment techniques, including taping, bracing, and therapeutic modalities.
7. Strong understanding of injury prevention strategies and conditioning programs.
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with coaches, athletes, parents, and healthcare professionals.
9. Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
10. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
11. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of sports medicine.
